I can relate. I have struggled with fitting in my workouts since…well forever!
I feel really good with my current strategy and I’ve been consistent with it for about 6 months now. Which feels really good!
I think the secret sauce was finding what REALISTICALLY worked for ME.
Also, determining what exercises I wanted and needed was also very helpful in the process.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself (and then answer!) if you are having trouble coming up with a workout plan, or sticking to one:
1. What am I trying to accomplish with my workouts? (In other words, why do I want to work out?)
2. What kind of workouts align with those goals I have for myself? If you’re not sure, you can do some research or get in touch with a coach to help you figure this out.
3. Then ask, which exercises or workouts will leave me feeling proud and accomplished? (instead of feeling drained and forced). And, which ones will I enjoy the most (or hate the least)?
4. What feels manageable RIGHT NOW?
> What days and times will work best for workouts?
> How long do I have to workout on those days (including dress & shower time)
> How long am I actually WILLING to workout on those days?
5. Finally, are there any barriers I need to work around? Be sure to think outside the box!
As you are thinking through these questions, here are some important things to remember:
> Try not to get hung up on what you think you SHOULD be doing. Instead, really consider what is realistic in your current season of life. This may take a big mindset shift.
> Something is always better than nothing. Accomplishing a very small goal will feel infinitely better than having a bigger goal that you just can’t stick to. This too, may take a big mindset shift.
> Think about the big picture. By starting small, you will create habits that LAST. And once habits are established, they will be easier to build upon.
This is the process I went through to find a sustainable workout routine that I am very pleased with. It’s not the same routine as it was when I started. I had to adjust and problem solve as needed, because life is constantly changing.
If this feels completely overwhelming to do alone or if you’ve been spinning your wheels for a while now, please message me (or you can book a free consult online).
PS. I'll be sharing more about my fitness routine in a future post...stay tuned!
